Special Olympics was founded over 30 years ago on the belief that people with special needs can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports, adapted as necessary to meet the needs of those with special mental and physical limitations.

Hocking County Special Olympics offers instruction in four sports – Basketball, Bowling, Softball and Track & Field.  Special Olympics is provided at no cost for the athletes except for some meals when we travel or if they need specialized equipment.  It cost several thousands of dollars to run the program.  Various fundraisers are held throughout the year to support the teams.  Athletes are expected to help with at least one fund raiser a year.  Contributions are also accepted.

Volunteers are a vital part of Special Olympics.  The program is always in need of coaches and partners, volunteers willing to play a sport along with the athletes.  For further information on becoming a part of something rewarding and fun, contact Sandy Conner at Hocking Valley Industries by calling 740-385-2118 between 8am and 4pm.
